Haku was born in a snowy village in the Water Country. There he lived peacefully and happily with his parents who were good, kind people. Unfortunately the Mist Village, for generations, has been a scene of war. Among its people were those who had advanced bloodlines. After the wars were over those who possessed advanced bloodlines were condemned, hunted, and killed. Their only way to survive was to hide their skills and bloodlines. Exposure meant death. Haku's father learned that his wife came from a clan with an advanced bloodline so he killed her and then tried to kill Haku. Haku had to kill his own father to protect himself but that part itself is a blank memory for him.

Haku was now alone, uncared for and living by the side of the road. Zabuza, the Devil of Hidden Mist, finds Haku and takes him in. Zabuza saw that Haku, with his advanced bloodline, would be of great use to accomplish his own goals. Haku understands this but accepts it willingly. He was happy, he was wanted.
